ZIMBABWE – HARARE – Human rights activist, Jestina Mukoko has filed a US$500 000 lawsuit against the government after banditry charges brought against her were dropped by the Supreme Court on Monday.
Her lawyer, Harrison Nkomo has confirmed that he filed the lawsuit on Tuesday. The respondents in the case are the police commissioner-general, Augustine Chihuri and former State Security Minister, Didymus Mutasa.
Mutasa sanctioned the abduction of Mukoko at her home in Norton and scores of MDC and human rights activists including two year-old Nigel Mutemagawo of Banket.
Other respondents involved in the planning and execution of the abductions were named in court affidavits that were filed at the High Court a few months ago.
They are; Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) Assistant Director External, retired Brigadier Asher Walter Tapfumanei, police superintendents, Elliot Muchada and Joshus Muzanango.
Notorious Officer Commanding CID Homicide, Crispen Makedenge, Chief Superintendent Peter Magwenzi and Assistant Commissioner Simon Nyathi are among the other abductors.
